Document the conditions
Record date, time, precise environment, weather, witness vantage point and visibility before interpretation begins.

Preserve the original
Keep unaltered photo, video or audio files. Record device metadata, copies and every transfer of physical material.

Test alternatives
Consider known wildlife, people, perspective, artifacts, error and deliberate fabrication alongside anomalous explanations.

Report the uncertainty
Distinguish a documented observation from a supported identification. State what can—and cannot—be concluded.
